What I offer
Individual Counseling
As we start our journey together, my counseling style is rooted in biblical principles and uses various counseling techniques from frameworks such as Internal Family Systems, attachment theory, and EMDR. A typical first session starts by understanding what is bringing you to counseling and past experiences that have informed today’s problems. Together, we will work to seek God’s will to heal from afflictions holding you back from walking in your calling. I see many people from many religious and cultural backgrounds, so wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome.I see people from various religious and cultural backgrounds, so wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome.
If using insurance to cover counseling, cost can vary based on your plan. Please check with your provider for information regarding fees and copay.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a type of therapy used in helping those that have experienced trauma begin to process the event(s) that allows the brain to move from emotionally stuck to being unhindered by the event. More can be found by visiting the EMDR website.
EMDR can be utilized in varying degrees to meet whatever your needs may be, but in some cases, learning to tolerate and identify how emotions are processed in your body is needed to effectively participate in the EMDR protocol. Each person’s body and brain are different, so each person will be treated based on individual needs. Together, we will work together at the pace you need.Together, we will collaborate at the pace you require.
Since EMDR is considered a type of therapy, it falls under the category of individual counseling and is, therefore, covered by insurance. Check with your insurance company for the out-of-pocket charges of individual counseling.
Walk and Talk
Walk and Talk Therapy is a relaxed, down-to-earth way to do counseling—out in the fresh air instead of a traditional office. We walk together, and as we move, we talk through whatever’s on your mind. Walking side by side can make conversations feel more natural and less intense, which often helps people open up more easily. Plus, being outdoors and moving your body has real benefits—it can boost your mood, lower stress, and help clear your head (check out this research article here). It’s a great way to support both your mental and physical well-being at the same time. We’ll walk 2.5-mile loop that moves us from my office through Country Club, and the Greenbelt trail. Please indicate at least 24 hours prior if you would like this as a part of your session. A special consent form will need to be filled out before this can be utilized. Outdoor sessions are subject to weather.
Marriage Counseling
My belief for marriage is to honor God, even when marriage doesn’t look like what you had hoped it would be. The goal is always healing and restoration, but that relies upon each person’s willingness to do the work necessary to attain it. At times, counseling can be a place to discover the next steps for a couple and find the resources to take those steps. Wherever you are at, together we can collaborate about what each participant needs. I have been trained in the Gottman Method and utilize material from their research.
Marriage counseling is not typically covered by insurance, so I encourage everyone to check with their insurance plan to see what is covered. If this service is not in your plan, please reach out to discuss additional options.
Supervision & Consultation
Understanding the impact of mental health has a profound impact on the overall well-being of individuals and communities. To support the cultivation of positive mental health in your workplace, church, or organization, I offer interactive training sessions tailored to the needs of both groups and individuals.
Topics can include mental health awareness, stress management, self-care strategies, mindfulness practices, self-reflection exercises, and resilience techniques. If you work with people and have challenges with interpersonal dynamics, I provide consultation and coaching to help you navigate situations from a mental health perspective. I provide a plethora of stories from my failures and successes as a counselor that will help you connect with the people you serve. Consultation is completely dependent on the need, and in some cases, there is no charge. Contact me to inquire about your needs!
Additionally, if you are a newly temporary licensed counselor needing to meet the state of Iowa’s supervision requirements, I am available to provide supervision. Rates are $100 per meeting.
